Donald Trump announced the creation of a powerful new government
agency that will collect billions of dollars in taxes and tariffs
from foreign countries.

The brand new agency - cleverly titled the External Revenue
Service - does the exact opposite of the already established
Internal Revenue Service (IRS), which taxes Americans.

It's the second department that Trump has unilaterally created
after tapping billionaire Elon Musk and entrepreneur Vivek
Ramaswamy to lead DOGE.

. . .

Funny ! Don't think we NEED a new bureaucracy though.

But, adding it up, the USA needs to MAKE MONEY compared
to everyone else. Money buys stuff - better military
and infrastructure and even some of that 'socialist'
shit too. You can't run a country exactly like a business
but it's a good idea to bring some biz philosophy
into government.

1946, the USA was pretty much the only industrial
power on earth that hadn't been bombed to shit in
the war. If you wanted good stuff, you bought it
from the USA. This made us very wealthy compared
to everyone else.

But it's not the 40s/50s anymore. Now there are MANY
players, MANY makers, MANY competitors. Much more
difficult to get ahead. I think our balance of trade
went negative way back during Nixon/Ford and we've
been living a sort of faux-prosperity through the
utterly messed-up practice of national debt. But,
politicians, illusions are more important, the
bread and circuses MUST continue ...

Meanwhile the Important People keep buying 20
megabuck 'survival bunkers' in New Zealand -
knowing the bread and circuses can't go on
forever .......

I don't know what the solution is but I believe that:

1. There should be fair trade.
2. NATO countries need to contribute their fair share.
3. We need to stop being a teet for every country on the planet.
4. We need to start taking care of our own first.
5. These endless wars need to end.
6. Nation building does not work.
7. Stop appeasement immediately. it does not work.

And others.

Like abandonning Kurds to make Turkey happy. Doing the big running

Inspections of Iran were a joke.
The UN had to agree to Iran's terms to inspect only where Iran said they could.
That's appeasement.
So is freeing up assests of Iran and relaxing sanctions so they could sell oil.

Guess where those billions in profits were spent.
Yes, in their proxy war with US.

As for the Afghanistan boondoggle, that is 100% on Biden and is one of the
worst decisions in the history of US.

Inspections of Iran were a joke.
But halting them accomplished everything.

Iran wanted an end to inspections and
Trump gave it to them. A victory?

If only Trump did things the Reagan way,
sold them weapons, a then lied about it.

In surprise summit concession, Trump says
he will halt Korea war games
June 12, 2018

President Donald Trump made a stunning
concession to North Korean leader Kim
Jong Un on Tuesday about halting military
exercises, pulling a surprise at a summit
that baffled allies, military officials
and lawmakers from his own Republican Party.

"Appeasement" almost always has negative results.
It's only worth it if the alt is literally WW3.

"Nation building" ... um ... kinda worked with Japan
and SK. Everywhere else since though ....

I'll differ a bit about wars ... some are just doomed
to be kinda "endless" yet are worth the fight. Not
everything's gonna be 'instant'. The TRICK is to know
when they ARE gonna be 'endless' and adjust strategy
accordingly to minimize our losses/expenses. You
don't just keep throwing tens of thousands of ground
troops at Afghanistan because it WON'T HELP worth
the proverbial damn. Pinpoint intel and strikes ...
THAT can steer events and politics. Even the lone
assassin can yield major results.

We can't be the worlds teat anymore - but be prepared
to lose a few "friends".

Trump got NATO members to boost spending, and just
in time too. He WANTS them to boost it maybe another
two or three percent. Most Euros say they can't
afford that - maybe true, maybe not. Their nanny-
state systems suck up SO much money ...

The Nordic countries ARE boosting self-defense quite
a bit. Not money straight to NATO but it still 'hardens'
them so the results are similar.

"Fair" trade ? 101 definitions of THAT :-)

"Taking care of our own" - yep, but sometimes helping
out selected others IS in our own interests.

The biggest problem here is that writ-down "policy",
stuff the pols and lawyers like, often is not good
enough or flexible enough or smart enough to cope
with the ever-weird actual world situation.

Agree.
By stopping endless wars I meant not getting bogged down in them.
So when the time is right, pull out and be done with it.
If the other countries want to remain at war, so be it.

Simply put, we will sell you X and you can sell us Y all at
a fair price.
Unfair trade is something like China dumping low cost EV
all over the world because without the government subsidizing
the makers and of course the low wages they would be
losing money on them.

'Threat' often translates into 'focus'. When the cold
war went away we lost focus, not only with international
affairs but on the discipline needed to run our own
country correctly and constitutionally.

Unfortunately, once focus is LOST ... it's hard to
find anybody who is actually concerned with what
Russia and China are up to now. It all sounds like
ye-olde noir cold war movies and they're convinced
that's all ancient history. Territorial ambitions ?
Spies and saboteurs ? Missiles/nukes pointed at
anything ? In THIS day - No No No !!! That's
GRANDPA Stuff !

They won't believe a bit of it until their debit
card and phone and Net suddenly don't work anymore.

China just proved it can get total access to all
our phone/net companies. Russia has been getting
into defense/bank/commercial/utility systems for
years. They know cyberspace is our weakest link now
and, if desired, can just make it go away. Won't
even be able to prove who did what.

Being in 'IT' I knew damned well that protecting
everything is pretty much IMPOSSIBLE - systems/software
are far too big to debug, too many 3rd-party vendors,
too many links in the Net chain, too much interdependency.
If big countries wanna get us they CAN.

Only fallback systems offer any hope - and it's harder
to get anyone to take paper checks and such anymore.
MANY Gen-Z/A2 people have never BEEN to a bank, have
never posted a paper letter and won't have the money
to post it anyhow. Besides, the postal service won't be
able to get gas and jet fuel anyhow ...

Giddy-up Flicka ! :-)

And, BTW, FOOD doesn't magically appear at the
market, nobody waves a magic wand, and the
neighbors only have so many cats and dogs.
Don't eat the deer either, there's a vast
epidemic of something like Mad Cow going
around (MAYbe infecting wild hogs now too).
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chronic_wasting_disease

Oh, and you don't have to crash cyberspace forever,
about 4-6 weeks would do it. By then most biz will
be ruined, the whole interlinked web of commerce/finance
gone. State/federal reserves of food/meds/etc will be
depleted. Not a single nuke need be fired - why bother,
and it won't help anyway.

Not "from foreign countries".

From US importers who will pass those costs along.
